August Superintendent Update

Hello United South Central Families,

I hope that you and your family are having a great summer and enjoying the first few days of August.

As we get closer to the start of the 2023-2024 school year, we would appreciate your input on Virtual Learning days. The state allows us the opportunity to consider utilizing Virtual Learning days each school year to facilitate learning when the weather prevents us from attending school in person. We do want to make sure we gather your input and perspectives as we determine the best plan for the upcoming school year. Please note, that if we elect to not utilize Virtual Learning days, time missed may need to be made up at the end of the school year, or on other scheduled days off. Linked below is a brief (two-question) survey on Virtual Learning days, and thank you in advance for your valuable input on this topic.

Our academic calendar for the 2023-2024 school is also linked to this message. Middle/High School open house is quickly approaching on August 30th, and Elementary conferences are scheduled for September 5th. Please add these dates to your calendars, and take a look at the many important dates upcoming on the calendar for the new school year.

Over the next few weeks, you will notice some changes to our USC School District webpage. We are in the process of transitioning to a different website provider, and we hope that this will enable a more seamless process of gathering information about USC school updates and activities. We anticipate our new website being up and running by mid-August, at which point we will have a USC Apple and Google Play application available to download. This process will also include some modifications to our social media presence, and we encourage you to follow USC on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter (X) as the new school year begins.

Finally, if you are in or around the school building over the next few weeks, please remember that we do have some excavation work occurring near the front of the school building. The building is accessible through door 1 (the High School and District entrance) as well as doors 3 and 14. The Elementary entrance is temporarily closed as the project progresses. We anticipate that this work will be completed prior to the start of the school year, and we are looking forward to having a safer area for students to enter and exit the building over the winter months as a result of this work.
